Event Ecosystem of Aviation Communities in Türkiye

While student clubs active in aviation at universities are important learning and experience environments that complement formal curriculums, systematic studies on the activity profiles of these clubs are limited. The purpose of this research is to describe the activities of aviation clubs at universities offering aviation management programs in Turkey, shedding light on the types of these activities, their distribution across clubs, and their scheduling patterns. The study sample comprises aviation clubs operating at 50 universities that offer aviation management and related programs in Turkey. A total of 482 events organized by these clubs during the specified period were analyzed using document review-based content analysis. Activities were categorized under seven predetermined dimensions: technical and field trips, social and cultural activities, academic and professional development, promotion and internal club communication, social responsibility and social contribution, personal development, and commemoration and national values events. The findings indicate that club activities exhibit a highly heterogeneous structure, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Academic and professional development activities are prominent, accounting for approximately 40% of total activities, followed by promotional and internal club communication activities, and technical and field trips. Social responsibility, personal development, and commemorative and national values activities were found to be relatively limited. Furthermore, significant differences were found among clubs in terms of the total number of activities and the diversity of their scope; a small number of clubs conducted high-volume, multifaceted programs, while a significant portion exhibited low activity levels. An examination of the distribution of activities by date revealed a tendency to cluster in specific months, consistent with the academic calendar. The study provides institutional and pedagogical recommendations for strengthening aviation clubs across various dimensions, offering a basis for future comparative and longitudinal research.
