Abstract

There are limited studies in the literature on the ornithofauna of Kırıkkale Province. This study was conducted to contribute to the ornithofauna of Kırıkkale. In the study, the habitat classes of Tatlıcak Pond and its surroundings were identified and its ornithofauna was documented. In this study, various geographic information system (GIS) programs such as ArcMap, and Google Earth Pro were used. Field studies were conducted between June 2020 and January 2025, employing point and transect observation methods. As a result of these studies, 9 different EUNIS habitat classes and 135 bird species belonging to 19 orders, 44 families, and 93 genera were identified. When examining the regional status of the identified bird species, it was found that 40 species (29.63%) are native, 36 species (26.67%) are summer visitors, 22 species (16.30%) are winter visitors, and 37 species (27.41%) are transit migrants. In the Tatlıcak Pond wetland, factors threatening species and their habitats were identified as unregulated hunting, water extraction, and the use of agricultural pesticides.
